RIGOL DP832 vs SIGLENT SPD3303X Review

When you need a power supply that is capable of low noise and considered quiet, you need a linear power supply. Two excellent options are the RIGOL DP832 and the SIGLENT SPD3303X. We are going to base our recommendation on project needs.

RIGOL DP832

RIGOL DP832

The RIGOL DP832 is a 3-channel linear power supply. It’s a benchtop unit that will fit well on your worktable. Its maximum power reaches 195 W. There are two isolated 30 V/3 A outputs and one 5 V/3 A output.

It features low ripple and low noise with measurements of <350 μVrms/3 mVpp and<2 mArms, respectively. This will satisfy your need for a high-quality power supply with excellent purity.

The unit has built-in voltage, amperage, and wattage measurements and features USB connectivity. It also has a built-in waveform display. With real-time display and measurement, the changing trend of voltage, amperage, and wattage can be viewed at the same time.

Additionally, the RIGOL DP832 has a superb linear regulation rate along with a great load regulation rate. It features a fast transient response time of less than 50 ms. This will meet your demand for rapidly changing voltage waveforms.

There are standard OVP, OCP, and OTP protection functions as well as a standard timing output. There are independent controls for each of the three channels.

The unit offers support for more advanced functions including timer and delay output which are standard and optional functions like recorder, monitor, analyzer, and trigger. It also has a 3.5-inch TFT display. The user interface is extremely easy to operate as well as clear and intuitive.

With the timer on, you can have your preset voltage and current displayed with up to 2048 groups. You can set the number of groups on the timer as well as each group’s current, voltage output, and timing time.

It comes equipped with a standard USB host and device interface and offers optional USB-GPIB and LAN/RS232/Digital IO interfaces. It can be controlled remotely through SCPI commands using these different interfaces.

SIGLENT SPD3303X

SIGLENT SPD3303X

The SIGLENT SPD3303X is a precision three-way power source that offers independently controllable output. There are two channels at 30 V/3 A and one channel that can be switched between 2.5 V, 3.3 V, and 5 V and is also 3 A. Its maximum power output is 220 W.

In comparison to the RIGOL DP832, the SIGLENT SPD3303X offers the same number of channels; however, its third channel is adjustable whereas the RIGOL’s third channel is not. The SIGLENT also offers a larger display screen.

The SIGLENT SPD3303X is programmable for five digits of voltage and offers four digits of current display. Resolution is 1 mV, 1 mA. The power source features a timer function as well as a waveform display function.

The display is a 4.3-inch TFT-LCD display. The unit supports remote programming and offers a real-time wave display.

You will find it has excellent output short and overload protection, making it useful for production and development. The output is both high precision and high resolution, providing an excellent read-back accuracy. You’ll find the output you receive is extremely accurate even with the smallest changes in voltage or current, something you that is just not feasible with a power supply that is of a lower resolution.

The series and parallel function will allow for the combination of two channels into one output, offering more power output capability, which extends the range of application. The 3 channels can be operated independently and can be powered on at the same time.

The panel will display the timing output. The unit can display up to 5 groups of output control and timing settings, providing you with simplified power programming functions.

Additionally, SIGLENT offers EasyPower PC software that provides a full range of control and communication features. The unit can save or recall up to 5 groups of setting parameters within its internal storage with external storage expansion being supported.

Our Recommendation

Clearly, both power supplies offer you excellent features, but which one is the better choice? The RIGOL DP832 offers three independent channels, excellent low noise levels, and advanced functions, including the ability to add on several optional functions. We recommend this linear power supply for professionals.

On the other hand, the SIGLENT SPD3303X offers an adjustable third channel, a larger display screen, and very high resolution and precision. We recommend this for professionals who have higher-level projects that need an extra level of precision and detail.
